Absolutely beautiful tall trees, easy path to the flush toilets and sinks. We have a brand new truck and trailer this year and had beanches dragging down the side as we drove through just trying to get back out.… It needs tons of TLC and revamping to make it more accessible for mid sized rigs as advertised Unless you are tent camping or have a very small tent trailer and tow rig, this is not a good campground. reservation for the 3 nights we had booked at a loss of $56 due to less than 24 hr cancel. We ended up finding a different private campground about an hour away. We ended up going back out to try for another site. When we found our reserved spot.#34.it would have been a nightmare getting in due to angles hills, etc. We dry camp in federal campgrounds on a regular basis and have for 30 years. We have a 22' travel trailer and a 3/4t truck. This campground needs to be more transparent about how confined and primitive it is. Tour guide and driver were friendly and very knowledgeable. Once we reached the end of the trip 2 hours later (time went so fast), it was an easy half hour drive back to the entrance of the hotel again to be dropped off. Saw bald eagles, ospreys, beavers but not that elusive moose!!! But views were spectacular of the Tetons and the water of the Snake River was crystal clear and just gorgeous. Trip was so serene and quiet - we were the only humans on Snake River so we had it all to ourselves which was the best. Never worried about getting wet or falling out of raft as there is little chance of that as there are no rapids. Staff were professional and you can bring water, food, cameras and also jackets as it can get cool on the water before the sun hits it. Booked direct through the hotel website and on the day were picked up from directly outside the hotel for the half hour of so drive to board the raft. We were staying at Signal Mountain Lodge but you don't have to be staying there to go on the float trip. We were only 5 and had more than enough room to spread out.īooked a few months before we arrived for an early morning float trip. These rafts hold up tp 12 passengers and the guide, who rows the raft standing up in the mid-section. Snow-capped peaks stood out against stark blue sky. The views of the Grand Tetons along this 10 mile stretch of the River were unrivaled. We observed a beaver and an eagle nest during our run, but no other animals. At this time of year, the River was swollen from snow melt and rain. He is an accomplished oarsman, personable and knowledgeable about the history of the area. We were met by our guide, Joe, in front of the Lodge restaurant where we were briefed on safety measures and given life vests to wear. ![]() ![]() You will need to allot 3-4 hours for this outing, 2 1/2 hours on the River and 30 minutes each way to the launch and pick-up sites. My wife and I did the morning trip on the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park. Signal Mountain Lodge runs two float trips daily, one at 7:30 a.m. At the end the van picks you up and drives you back to Signal Mountain Lodge. You don't have to be in any real shape - just mobile enough and able to sit in those positions comfortably to enjoy the trip. If you have knee, hip or back issues I would discuss these ahead of time at the lodge as the trip involves climbing into and out of a raft (which the guides absolutely help you with) and sitting on the edge of it for the entire trip. I would recommend water shoes for footwear and to dress in layers. It was worth every penny and even without the wildlife sightings the view of the Tetons was excellent - there is not a bad photo from the whole trip. While experiences will vary we were able to see bald eagles - both young (underdeveloped) and full grown mated pairs, pelicans, pronghorns, elk, ducks, osprey and other birds up close and personal. He kept the raft rotating to give all of the riders different vantage points throughout the trip. The guide was extremely attentive and had great knowledge of the area and the wildlife. ![]() The trip down the river is calm with no real rapids to speak of - it truly is a float trip. Guide (Mark) was extremely friendly and along with Joe the driver made sure all the requisite safety measures were taken and followed. Van picked us up at Signal Mountain Lodge Restaurant area and drove us to Deadman's Bar.
